It’s based on the x server environment. MST
           MST (multi stream transport) MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013, Mac Pro (Late 2013), and iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) computers also support multi-stream transport (MST) displays at 60 Hz. If you use a 60Hz MST display with the Mac Book Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) or iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), only one additional Thunderbolt display can be supported with their connection. Manual configurations are also needed to configure the 4k display along with the MST display

4K monitors
     4K monitors is also called as the 4k2k, this area had their high valued pixels of about 4000pixels.there are various 4K resolutions are being available in the field of digital television and digital cinematography in the movie projecting industries. DCI (Digital cinema initiatives) is the dominant of 4K standards.
         This 4K become the common name for ultra high definition televisions (UHDTV), its resolution are being 3840 x 2160.which are lower than 4K industry standards of 4096 x 2160 at the aspect of (19:10).
       The wide screen displaying is an advantage of the high definition television among the older models. They are displayed video based up on their vertical view as the 720p or 1080p.as that of previously used video definitions the 4k UHDTV is about 2160p of videos quality.
Now a days YouTube and television industries are adapted to the UHDTV. In 2014 4k content from major television networks remains unlimited. Mainly 4kcontent are available in online, YouTube, Amazon are had these availability.

Resolution


          UHD is a resolution of 3840 pixels × 2160 lines and this one of the two resolutions of UHDTV targeted towards consumer television, the other being FUHD which is 7680 pixels × 4320 lines UHD has two times that of  the horizontal and vertical resolution of the 1080pHDTV format, With four times as many pixels overall in the display.

          Televisions capable of displaying 4K resolutions are seen by consumer electronics companies as the next trigger for an upgrade cycle due to a lack of consumer interested in 3D TVs.
You can use 4K displays and Ultra HD TVs at the following resolutions and refresh rates via the built-in HDMI port.
  • 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz refresh rate
  • 4096 x 2160 at 24 Hz refresh rate (mirroring is not supported at this resolution)

Steps to be followed to use display built in control to enable this feature
  • Sharp PN-K321: Choose Menu > Setup > Display Port STREAM > MST > SET
  • ASUS PQ321Q: Choose OSD menu > Setup > Display Port Stream
  • Dell UP2414Q and UP3214Q: Choose Menu > Display Setting > Display Port 1.2 > Enable
  • Panasonic TC-L65WT600: Choose Menu > Display Port Settings > Stream Setting > Auto

         Mac can be automatically detecting the MST enable display. You display must be needed few of firewall updating that supports the 60Hz operation.
